Indian Law Firms Association

What We Do
AILF delivers impact through seven interconnected programmes designed to advance standards, enable policy reform, foster collaboration, and support the growth of India's law firms.
01

Policy Advocacy

AILF is India's institutional voice for law firm policy. We engage directly with the Ministry of Law & Justice, Ministry of Commerce, NITI Aayog, GST Council, SEBI, RBI, and other regulators to advance the interests of organised law firms. Our policy positions are backed by independent economic research, comparative analysis of global legal markets, and structured consultation with our member base.

Current advocacy priorities:
  • Legal services export recognition and promotion
  • GST rationalisation for legal services
  • Development of a national legal accreditation framework
  • Foreign law firm entry reform
  • Investment into arbitration and ADR infrastructure
02

Standards & Accreditation

AILF's Accreditation Programme provides independent certification of law firm quality across three tiers. The programme assesses firms on governance and management, client service delivery, professional ethics, data and cybersecurity, financial management, and talent development. Firms that achieve AILF accreditation stand apart in the market and signal to clients, lenders, and counterparties that they meet verifiable professional standards.

Membership Benefits at a Glance
Tier Description
Foundation Accreditation Entry-level certification covering basic governance, client service standards, and ethical compliance. For firms of 3–15 advocates.
Professional Accreditation Intermediate certification covering process maturity, financial transparency, data security, and HR frameworks. For firms of 15–50 advocates.
Excellence Accreditation Flagship certification for firms demonstrating leadership across all domains — management systems, client satisfaction, innovation, and community. For firms of 50+ advocates.

05

Co-Counsel Collaboration Board

AILF's digital collaboration platform enables member firms to post and respond to co-counsel opportunities. Find coverage in geographies you do not operate in, specialist expertise for complex matters, or additional capacity during peak periods — all within a vetted network of fellow AILF member firms.

06

Knowledge & Research

AILF produces original research, industry benchmarks, policy papers, and practice guides to inform members and shape public policy. Our research covers the state of India's legal market, law firm economics, talent and compensation benchmarks, technology adoption, and international legal market trends. All research is independently conducted and peer-reviewed.

07

International Partnerships

AILF maintains structured partnerships with leading law firm associations globally — including counterpart bodies in the United Kingdom, European Union, Singapore, UAE, and the United States. These partnerships enable cross-border referral frameworks, knowledge exchange, joint research, and the positioning of Indian law firms as preferred partners for international legal work.
